Thought & Writing [ENGL 1050]
Narrative Peer-to-Peer Review Experience
I've always enjoyed reading others peoples work in class and giving them feedback in order to help them improve their writing. Peer-to-peer review is an excellent exercise for both writers. It may help trigger more ideas from reading others writing, find sections that need work, etc. Thursday in class we were paired with a partner and read each others narrative. After reading, we corrected any misspelling, grammar issues, and filled out a peer-review form. The form included questions which rotated around the idea of how to find improvements for your paper. The form is given back to your partner so they can see your thoughts and ideas for improvement. Thanks to my partner, I now know what needs to be change to make my narrative better than it was originally. I enjoyed this experience and hope we continue to do this for future papers.
This blog was created for my ENGL 1050 class. I will be blogging about assignments, readings, and outside things such as music, etc.

Porter Robinson New Single
Porter Robinson came out with a new single last week- Spitfire. It's pretty chill in the beginning but has a nice drop in the middle. My favorite song is still Say My Name.

Why My Mother Can't Speak English
Writing Assignment #1
Everyone has a unique aspect about them. Some can do certain things better than others. They're skills some people have a hard time learning, practicing, and mastering. One of my weakness' in my musical experience is sight reading. Sight reading is the ability to play a piece the player has never seen before. This skill requires coordination, practice, knowing your way around a keyboard [without looking], always looking ahead, and much more.
Through my 13 years of private piano lessons, my teacher always assigned me sight reading along with my other studies. I followed her instructions but not consistently. With sight reading, you must practice almost everyday to improve. I take the MMTA [Michigan Music Teacher Association] competition every year which has a small section of sight reading. I never do well on this test and it is embarrassing to score so low [but on the overall competition I do very well]. After the test, I always tell myself that I will practice sight reading every day during the summer and be a fluent reader. I will force myself to sit down and improve. Unfortunately this never happened. I have taken the MMTA every year for 13 years and usually never do well on the sight reading test. I still have problems today. When coming into the music program at Western Michigan University, I vowed to improve by taking classes associated with the skill, attain help from my teacher, and play with other instrumentalists and vocalists. I want to become a superior musician and master this ability.

New Longboard Added To My Beginning Collection!
I just got a new 40'' complete longboard last weekend for $100! The trucks, bearings, and deck are not the greatest but you get what you pay for! I like the wheels since they're so durable and the grip on the deck works great. If anyone wants to ride around campus, hit me up.
