Cantor argues that the biggest task of the university is to make it more culturally diverse. Universities are the easiest areas to promote diversity through groups, admissions, etc. It brings students with different backgrounds, races, ethnic groups, and generations into one whole unified community. Within universities, students create groups about their background, race, etc and create communities to help them feel comfortable around other students similar to themselves. It is necessary for universities to ensure cultural diversity because they are not many other places diversity can be easily spread. Again, schools bring different communities together. It should be the university's responsibility to promote diversity to have students accept all communities.
Cantor explains that higher education is still talking about race because we can't all look at one another as equals. To get past this, Cantor believes we should "create learning and living communities" which will blend all different backgrounds, religions, etc into a united community. Going back to universities - this is the greatest area to start since admissions take students of different ethnics, traditions, etc into a community.
